Sadie Chandler

Opening Tuesday 30 October, 6:45pm - 8:00pm

Sadie Chandler has exhibited widely over the past twenty years in artist run initiatives, dealer galleries and institutions. Works are held in National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and other major and private collections. Chandler works across a variety of mediums embracing sculpture, painting, drawing, video, installation and wallpaper.

For Stuff for Aches & Pains 2012, Chandler created a series of paintings on canvas using her distinctive style of floating objects on flat backgrounds. Individual works vary but are united by a playful, animated approach which extends beyond decoration. Chandler has encountered and overcome personal medical obstacles but this work should not be taken as documentation of her journey, or as whimsical ephemera. Included in Stuff for Aches and Pains are scatter pieces, tiny objects of flotsam and jetsam from everyday life, medical paraphernalia, pills and bottles as well as larger single images. Stuff for Aches and Pains is a celebration of the rhythmic pattern and nuances of still life.

Gunter Christmann

Opening Tuesday 18 September, 6:30pm - 8:00pm
Show runs 18 Septermber  - 27 October2012

GUNTER CHRISTMANN (b. 1936, Germany)
Christmann's career has spanned more than forty years since he arrived in Sydney, from Berlin, in 1959.

Christmann first came to prominence during the 1960s, exhibiting European inspired hard edged abstraction. Associated with the important Central Street Gallery, Christmann's work was included in the seminal The Field exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in 1968. Through this personal association with colourfield and hard edged painting, Christmann has created unique quotations and idiosyncratic variations on these styles in his later work. In a series exhibited at the Act XII: New Works on Paper exhibition, Christmann ‘'tagged" colour photocopies of one of his paintings from 1967.

Christmann's paintings have featured in important exhibitions in Australia and overseas and he was chosen to represent Australia at the 1971 Sao Paulo Biennial. The National Gallery of Australia has a larger collection of works by Gunter Christmann than any other contemporary Australian artist. He currently resides in Sydney.

"History" (Mardi Gras Years: 1978-2013)

"History" (Mardi Gras years: 1978-2012)
35 Works by Anton Parsons
Opening Monday 2 April 6:30 - 8:30PM
Show runs 2 April - 12 May

As a sculptor Anton Parsons is known for his belief in shape, texture and colour. In repetition and sequences, lucky combinations and topsy-turviness.
Here he shows 35 works on paper. Simply titled “History” (1978-2012 Mardi Gras years), he deals with years and numbers, and the memories they hold. They jumble, condense, overlap.

Sometimes years are reminders. Reminders of people hurt, of great bloody disasters, car crashes and ambulance trips. Or long periods doing shitty unloved jobs.

Or years to rejoice. Where we emerged blinking, smiling, happy.

So remember and rejoice with Anton Parson’s works, pour your own meaning into each, or see them whole as a generation.
