Charlie Sheard

ESD Gallery is delighted to present EROS, a solo show by celebrated abstractionist Charlie Sheard. This will be Sheard's first ever exhibition of exclusively figurative work, showcasing a body of work distinctly different to his expansive abstract colourscapes. In 2008 Sheard devoted himself to life drawing for twleve months as a means of finding a greater connection to the body within his practice as an abstract painter. This exciting show presents the results of this extended period of enquiry.

Come and join us for a drink at the opening on Tuesday 3rd August, 6.30-8pm
102 Burton Street, Darlinghurst, 2010

There is Nothing New Under the Sun

Dr David Baker of East Sydney Doctors

The July 8 issue of Medical Observer featured an article about ESD Gallery, East Sydney Doctors and our previous show, 'There is nothing new under the sun...', curated by Kat Sapera.
They went on to discuss the medical benefits of going artistic in the waiting room.

The article can be viewed here, but you'll have to log on.

'There is nothing new under the sun...' was a group show, bringing together the work of Peter Aland, Lance Cunynghame, Clinton Garofano, Katherine Moline and Steven Vella. The show drew on notions that they may be no such thing as an original – only authentic repetitions and amalgamations of that which already exists. Bringing together the work of five contemporary artists this exhibition demonstrated and celebrated this theme through the incorporation of art formed of found objects, images, surfaces and unexpected materials. Inextricably bound within this theme were ideas of reinvention, regeneration and redefinition of purpose; utilitarian, manufactured or natural objects are imbued with a new sense of value as they metamorphose into a work of art by way of creative processes. We live in an age of recycling, whether it be fashion, music or rubbish - we strive to reuse in order to create. This exhibition aimed to explore the nature of transitions from one form to another, exposing tensions between the polemics of what exists, what has come before, and what is yet to exist.
